Sunday (Feb. 23) at Rosen Centre in Orlando, Fla., harness racing’s best of 2024 will be honored at the annual Dan Patch Awards dinner. Owners, breeders, trainers and drivers will walk away with the hardware recognizing them as the best of the best from a year ago. Obviously, this night will also be about the equine superstars who stood above the rest in their respective divisions. When the topic is the best horses, it leads to the best and most lucrative races, and when the topic is the biggest and best stakes events the game offers, The Meadowlands stands at the head of the class.
Batavia Downs cancels live racing Thursday
As a result of the ongoing extreme winter weather that has impacted all of western New York over the past week, Batavia Downs management has canceled the live card of harness racing scheduled for Thursday (Feb. 20) in an abundance of caution for the safety and welfare of all the participants.
$800,000 in Virginia Certified Residency program monies awarded from 2024 Standardbred races
The Virginia Harness Horse Association announced that $800,000 in 2024 bonus monies were awarded to 2- and 3-year-old horses that participated in its lucrative Certified Residency program. A total of $400,000 was doled out to owners of 50 horses foaled in 2021 and another $400,000 to owners of 68 horses foaled in 2022.
