Back-to-back grand slams for Mike Merton

Monticello, NY — On Thursday (Dec. 31), Mike Merton recorded his second driving grand slam in as many days, winning four of the 12 races on the final card of 2020 at Monticello Raceway.

Merton started his grand slam in the fourth race with a win aboard Dotted Line ($7.00, 2:00.3) before taking the sixth with Baywood Shadow ($6.30, 2:00.2). After a short hiatus, Merton came back in the eighth race to score with Blacktree ($7.30, 1:59.3) and finished his grand slam in the very next race with Wrangler Rockstar ($4.80, 2:02.4).

Greg Merton had thee winners and Bruce Aldrich Jr. had two. Trainer Art Green enjoyed a double on the afternoon.

The 12-race card produced a season-high handle of $850,256, yielding a per-race average of just under $71,000. Live racing resumes at Monticello on Monday (Jan. 4) at 12:25 p.m.; racing will occur Monday through Friday.
