Northville, MI — Lying In Cash (Aracache Hanover-Jokerslitlwhitelie) and driver Jason Merriman returned to the Northville Downs winner’s circle after capturing the Saturday night (April 22) $10,800 Open Handicap Pace for the second straight week.
A four-way tussle ensued off the start with Magic Shark (Kody Massey), Liberal (Justin Irvine), National Sport (David Lake) and Lying In Cash all leaving to vie for the lead. Liberal took over to the backstretch before Lying In Cash stormed up on the outside to grab command at the quarter pole. Tripping the beam in :26.4, the leader swelled up as they went to the half in :56.1, facing a challenge from a first-up Magic Shark to the backstretch.
But as they went to the three-quarters, Lying In Cash accelerated and passed the timer in 1:24.3. As they turned for home, Jet’s Sureshot came to call to make a race of it in the stretch, but it wasn’t enough as Lying In Cash held on to win by a quarter-length margin in 1:54. Jet’s Sureshot settled for second and Catch Me Conrad got up for third.
It was the 30th career victory for the 7-year-old gelding who is bred, owned and trained by Techia Lohmann. The win pushed the career earnings for Lying In Cash to $201,386.
