Barnsdale has big day in Grand Circuit Challenge

from HANA Harness

To say Garnet Barnsdale had a good day Thursday (Sept. 19) in HANA Harness’ 2013 Grand Circuit Challenge, sponsored by the Hambletonian Society, Chicago Harness, IHHA, Meadowlands, Tioga Downs and Vernon Downs, would be an understatement.

Barnsdale had a fantastic day, netting $1,017.21 for the day which included races at the Little Brown Jug and The Red Mile. As a result of his performance Thursday, Barnsdale, who started the week in eighth place, has moved to second place, less than $20 out of the top spot thanks to his net profit for the week of $1,796.66 with one more contest day remaining for this week.

No doubt his biggest hit was a $50 wager on Resistance Futile in the third elimination of the Jug. The horse won and paid $50.

When asked what made him pick the horse, Barnsdale stated, “Sharp horse, inside post. I expected about 6- or 8-1 to be honest.”

Well, that projected 8-1 grossed Barnsdale a cool $1,250 for his selection.

Barnsdale closed the evening with the pentafecta at the Red Mile which paid $125.21 for a 10 cent wager (a $24 ticket).

The contest resumes Saturday evening with the Milton Stakes at Mohawk and the Kentuckiana Stallion Management and Centaur Trotting Classic at Hoosier Park.
