Hightstown, NJ – Two-year-old male pacer Beau Jangles jumped into the Top 10 in the Week 11 edition of the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll released Wednesday (Aug. 27) after remaining undefeated with a stakes-record victory in a division of the Grade 3 Nassagaweya this past weekend at Woodbine Mohawk Park.
The Canadian-based Beau Jangles, trained by Dr. Ian Moore, improved to 5-for-5 in his career with his 1:50 score in the Nassagaweya and landed at No. 9 in the Top 10. He is this season’s richest 2-year-old pacer, with $277,930 in earnings.
There was little other movement in the Top 10, with the first eight positions remaining unchanged. Miki And Minnie, who won the third leg of the Kentucky Sire Stakes Championship Series for 3-year-old female pacers at the Red Mile on Monday (Aug. 25), was voted No. 1 for the fourth consecutive week and was followed by Sylvia Hanover, Yo Tillie, Louprint and Super Chapter in the top half of the rankings.
Twin B Joe Fresh, Nordic Catcher S and Periculum were the next three, followed by Beau Jangles and Prince Hal Hanover, who slipped from ninth.
Super Chapter, who made a break in the third leg of the KYSS Championship Series for 3-year-old male trotters, and Periculum, who finished second in an elimination of the Grade 1 Maple Leaf Trot, were the only Top 10 horses other than Miki And Minnie in action last week.
Conversano dropped out of the Top 10.
The Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown poll, which will continue weekly on Wednesdays through the Grand Circuit season, does not determine year-end awards. The members of the U.S. Harness Writers Association vote on all Dan Patch Award division winners plus Trotter of the Year, Pacer of the Year, and Horse of the Year.
