Columbus, OH — Betty Jo Hastings, 72, of Delmar, Del., died May 27, 2011, at Peninsula Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.
She was born in Stockton, a daughter of the late James and Thelma Ward.
Mrs. Hastings was an animal lover and horse trainer for many years. She was very active in the horse business and held memberships in the United States Trotting Association, the Harness Horse Youth Foundation and the American Junior Quarterhorse Association.
In addition to training horses, she also worked at the Delmar IGA grocery store and Keenan’s Costume Shop.
Mrs. Hastings is survived by a son, Steve (Kathy) Drummond; daughters, Linda Hopkins, Shelly Drummond and Teresa Fitzpatrick.; grandchildren, Kimberly, Brian, Jackie, Tyler, Nicole, Michael, Tiffany, Dale, Nicholas and Cody; sisters, Barbara Ann Justice and Patty Radcliff; brothers, Gary Ward and Donnie Ward; a special niece, Angela; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Alvin; and her twin son and daughter, Richard and Diane Drummond.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday (June 1) at 11 a.m. at Short Funeral Home, 13 E. Grove St., Delmar. Family and friends may call one hour prior to the service. Pastor Eddie Pusey, Jr. will officiate. Interment will follow the service in Springhill Memory Gardens near Hebron.
