Columbus, OH — Betty Lou Beatty, 97, of Columbus, Ohio, died Aug. 28, 2024, at Scioto Community in Columbus where she had been residing since 2020.
Mrs. Beatty was born Jan. 8, 1927, in Springfield, Ohio, to Dwight and Gertrude Wilcox. She was a graduate of Hamilton High School in Hamilton, Ohio, and lived most of her life in Greenfield and Washington Court House before moving to the Columbus area.
She was a licensed practical nurse and had formerly worked for Dr. Doane in Greenfield and Dr. Young in Mount Sterling.
She enjoyed all aspects of the harness racing business and had been an owner of Standardbred racehorses. She was a member of the Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association and the United States Trotting Association. She had formerly attended the First Presbyterian Church in Greenfield.
On May 5, 1952, she married Hugh Edwin Beatty. He preceded her in death on Nov. 5, 1993. She was also preceded in death by a brother, Dwight Wilcox.
She is survived by a son, Hugh J. “Sandy” (Sandra); grandchildren, Adam C. (Courtney) and Rachel (Landon Hall); great-granddaughter, Ava Marie Taylor Hall; and brother, Richard Wilcox.
The funeral will be Wednesday (Sept. 4) at Noon at the Kirkpatrick Funeral Home in Washington Court House. Burial will follow in the Greenfield Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home one hour prior to the service on Wednesday.
