Dayton, OH — Driver Sam Widger gave Big Boys Edge a perfect first-over trip to take the $18,000 condition claiming trot at Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway on Tuesday (Nov. 4).
When the gate’s wings folded, Long Ridge (Trevor Smith) out-sprinted Helpspaythebills (Tyler Smith) to grab the early lead.
Big Boys Edge appeared to make a bobble at the start but was gathered up and put into fourth at the quarter in :27.3.
Muscle Joe (Chris Page) made a quick brush to wrestle the lead from Long Ridge before the half mile in :56.4.
Widger tipped Big Boys Edge off the rail and began his long grind on the outside to pressure Muscle Joe at the three-quarters in 1:25.3.
Big Boys Edge put a head in front as the field of seven turned for home and held off a late charge by Sure Did (Jeremy Smith) by three-quarters of a length to win in 1:55.2. Southernsunshine (Brett Miller) rallied from last to grab the show spot.
The 5-year-old gelded son of Sharp Edge, who won for the sixth time in 2025, is conditioned by Carl Newland for Hartley Farms.
In the $14,000 condition claiming trot, an early break by the favorite and a late break by the second-place finisher caused some chaos and a sizeable trifecta.
Aunt Lilly and Luke Hanners capitalized on a break by the bettor’s choice, Uma Lady (Sam Widger), to grab the lead, and the sophomore daughter of Uncle Peter established fractions of :27.4, :57.2 and 1:25.2.
Papa Nordin (Brett Miller) looked to be poised to pounce on the leader but broke stride in the stretch, reaching the line second, five lengths behind the winner.
The judges later determined that Papa Nordin violated the breaking rule and was placed eighth.
The disqualification elevated Mjs Wishinforpete (Jason Beattie), who was 176-1, to second and Rhinestone Camo (Ken Holliday), who was 17-1, to third.
The trifecta returned $6,260.80 for a 50-cent ticket.
Aunt Lilly, who scored in 1:54.4, won for the seventh time in her career.
Steve Carter trains the seven-time winner for James Crawford IV.
The card featured a pair of driving triples by Trevor Smith and Luke Hanners.
Dayton Raceway returns to action on Wednesday (Nov. 5) afternoon with a 14-race card starting at 4 p.m. The first race will start the Pick-5 with a carryover of more than $3,918.
