Marlborough, MA — There’s no place like home. Just ask George Ducharme, Paul Fontaine or Raymond Campbell.
On Monday (Sept. 9) at Plainridge, the Massachusetts Sire Stakes got underway for 2-year-olds and Ducharme trained all three 2-year-old colts and geldings in the first event.
The winner was the Fontaine-owned My Friend Charlie who covered the mile in a swift 2:01 with Chris Lems in the bike.
The winner of the second stakes race for 2-year-old fillies was Zena, owned by Stephen Richard, stopping the teletimer in 1:57.1 with Jim Hardy aboard.
The third event for 2-year-old colts and geldings was won by Lindy’s Real Deal, driven by Patrizio Ancora and trained by Frank Antonacci in 2:02.
Purses for the three events ranged from $6,384 to $6,500.
Stephen Nason dominated the live racing card, bagging four wins on the seven races. Nason ranks second in the Plainridge driver standings.
