Urbana, OH – The Bill Dailey Foundation is proud to announce that applications for its 2026 Sponsored Racing Colors Program are now open. Created in memory of James “Bill” Dailey following his unexpected passing in 2018, the Foundation honors a legacy defined by excellence, hard work, and generosity in harness racing.

Throughout a career spanning more than 40 years, Bill Dailey achieved remarkable success as an owner, trainer, and driver. He sent over 8,000 horses to the track, recording 1,200 winners and earning more than $12.3 million in purse money.
As a driver, Bill guided approximately 20,000 horses, with 2,300 victories. Among his many accomplishments, he made history as the first trainer to win the Ohio Triple Crown in back-to-back seasons with the filly pacer Best Of Ball, developed numerous Ohio and Indiana Sires Stakes champions, and set multiple world records. Bill’s impact on the sport was recognized with his induction into Ohio’s Immortal Hall of Fame in 2020.
While Bill’s career achievements were numerous, he was equally known for his wit and generosity. The Bill Dailey Foundation carries forward that spirit by assisting drivers and trainers with purchasing registered racing colors, an essential requirement in the industry that can pose a financial barrier for those just starting.
The Foundation’s program is open to amateur drivers and trainers who meet the following criteria:
• 16 years of age or older
• Resident of the continental United States
• Holding a current USTA license (Drivers: minimum “Q/F” Qualifying/Fair license; Trainers: minimum “L” Limited license)
• In good standing with their state racing commission, with no current suspensions or disciplinary actions
• Owns no or few pairs of registered racing colors
Applications are available by emailing billdaileyfoundation@gmail.com. The deadline to apply is March 9, 2026.
