by M. Kelly Young, for Goshen Historic Track
Goshen, NY — Stephane Bouchard was an unexpected guest at Goshen Historic Track on Saturday, June 5, and was a late driving addition in four of the six matinee events.
The top Yonkers Raceway reinsman made his presence known by winning two starts, including one behind New York Sires Stakes-eligible three-year-old pacing filly Come Fly With Me (Ideal Wilco) in 2:081.
Octavia Rappoport owns and trains the filly who won over a track rated “good” and through a light rain.
The afternoon was the first of three annual matinee cards presented by Historic Track and Bouchard, who recently moved to a farm just outside of Goshen, plans to return for the remaining events.
New York Sires Stakes-eligible Just A Britt, a two-year-old pacing filly by Kassa Branca, scored the fastest win on the card in 2:04. Tom Edler trained and drove for mother and owner Polly Edler of Trusty Acres Stable.
“I wasn’t really surprised that she won, but I was surprised at the time,” said Polly. “She’s a big horse, but she took the turns so good. She’s used to the turns on the training track, which are real tight.”
Tom trains Just A Britt over his half-mile oval in Napanoch, New York, and trusts the filly’s gait enough that he may decide race her free-legged.
The filly may return to Goshen soon; she is eligible to the Landmark Stakes which are raced over the Fourth of July Grand Circuit meet.
Matinee racing will continue at Historic Track on June 12 and June 19 with a first post of 1:00 p.m. For more information, contact the track at (845) 294-5333.
