HAMBURG, NY — Brookview Darius ($7.34) got a perfect ‘view’ from the pocket and turned that into a victory in Buffalo Raceway’s featured $12,000 trot on Friday afternoon (March 27) with a 1-3/4 length decision over Celtic’s Whitesox in 1:58.4 over the fast track.
The even money favorite Newsboy broke stride in his leave attempt off the gate, thus giving Celtic’s Whitesox (Kyle Cummings) the uncontested lead. Brookview Darius (Brett MacDonald) in the meantime was able to settle in patiently from the garden spot.
With fractions of :29.1, :58.4 and 1:28.0, Celtic’s Whitesox and Brookview Darius broke away from the rest of the field and they were poised for the stretch drive. Brookview Darius found the lightning lane to his liking and easily pulled away for the win. Celtic’s Whitesox held on for second place with What’s The Point (David McNeight III) grabbing third.
Owned by the Friendship Stables and trained by Sheena Cohen, it was the first victory in three appearances on the year for the 6-year-old gelded Brookview Darius (Swan For All-Whitty’s Winner). The score moved his seasonal bankroll to $6,000 and to $315,350 in his career.
In the sub-featured $10,500 pace, Shoobee Doo A ($2.10) made it 3-for-3 on the season with another gate-to-wire victory. All of his wins on the campaign have come by going coast to coast. Shoobee Doo A beat Da Ghetto Wizard by three quarter lengths in a seasonal best of 1:55.3.
The $10,500 trot went to Said N Done AS ($17.00) as he got a perfect pocket trip from driver Kevin Cummings in 1:59.1. Said N Done AS drafted along nice behind the pace-setting Quiksilvr Bluechip, roaring by in the lane, but had to hold off the late charge of Fashion On Star in posting the head victory.
MacDonald completed the day with three driving wins while Monti, McNeight III and Kevin Cummings all registered doubles. Candace Brandstatter-Hall notched three training victories while Cohen had two.
Racing will resume on Saturday afternoon (March 28) at 2:30 p.m. with an 11-race program scheduled.
