Hamburg, NY — Buffalo Raceway’s 2009 season will come to an exciting conclusion this Sunday, July 26. The final week is busy and will feature New York Sire Stakes on Friday (2-year-old filly trot) and Saturday (2-year-old colt pace). Also to be decided will be the top driver and trainer of the Hamburg Oval.
With the Sire Stakes in town and a nice forecast the chance of track records being broken this weekend is likely. Two track records have already fallen this year as 3-year-old filly Brandnewgirlfriend trotted in 1:59.1 on June 7 and on July 11 Bet The Ranch set the mark for mare pacers in 1:55.
One final promotion takes place this weekend, as four couples will win a trip to the New York Sire Stake Night of Champions at Vernon Downs on September 26, including limousine transportation, dinner and $100 cash. All entries that correctly select the winner of a designated race on Friday or Saturday will be eligible to win one of the magical packages.
The top driver and trainer may not be determined until the last race on Sunday. Trainer Sherri Holliday currently has the slimmest of leads as the top conditioner with 81 trips to the winner’s circle, through Sunday. Chasing Holliday is DJ Millner who has 80 wins.
The driver standings are nearly as close as Ray Fisher, Jr. currently leads with 141 wins. Last year’s leading dash driver Kevin Cummings sits five victories behind at 136.
Live racing takes place Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., Friday and Saturday at 6:30 p.m., and Sunday at 1:05 p.m. Simulcast wagering from across North America is available Wednesday through Sunday year round in the Clubhouse.
