Monmouth, ME — Cantab Fashion 2,1:51.4 ($145,650) is set to become the fastest and best-bred trotter to ever stand for stallion service in the state of Maine.

The exciting son of Cantab Hall was the co-fastest 2-year-old trotter of 2018.  In fact, in the history of harness racing only three 2-year-old trotting colts have won faster: Southwind Tyrion 2,1:51.1, Cuatro De Julio 2,1:51.3, and Walner 2,1:51.3.

At age 2, Cantab Fashion went on a five-race win streak which included sweeping both major stake races at Lexington’s Red Mile.  The first week he won the $86,000 div. Bluegrass S. on an off track, and the following week he took his fast record of 1:51.4 while capturing the $92,200 div. International Stallion Stake, defeating Green Manalishi S.

As a 3-year-old Cantab Fashion trotted in 1:51 in an elimination heat of The Hambletonian at the Meadowlands, advancing to the rich and prestigious $1,000,000 final.  A multiple stakes winner on the Grand Circuit, Cantab Fashion finished his career with 6 wins in 13 starts and earnings of $145,650. 

Standing at just under 16 hands with sturdy bone structure and correct conformation, Cantab Fashion is out of a three-quarter sister to world champion Beatgoeson Hanover 1:51.4 ($1,157,830).  His second dam is the freakishly-fast Beat The Wheel 4,1:51.4 ($303,178), who took her world record at age four defeating Pine Chip, among others.  She was a multiple Free For All and fast class winner, often conquering male opponents including S J’s Photo.

Of course, his sire Cantab Hall has not only affirmed himself as a top trotting stallion, currently third at $6.3M for leading money winning sires in 2021, but his sons have now emerged as successful progenitors of his favorable bloodlines.  Father Patrick ($4.3M), Uncle Peter ($4.2M) and Explosive Matter ($4.1M) are now listed at seventh, ninth and tenth respectively for seasonal all age trotters by earnings.

The stallion’s owner, Jason Vafiades, is excited to bring the horse to Maine, and stated, “With new racing opportunities in the Pine Tree State, and increased purse structures around New England, Cantab Fashion represents the future of the Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes for trotters.”

Since the inception of slot machines in Maine in 2005, the purses in the Maine Sire Stakes program have more than doubled.  Total capital investment in breeding stock, equipment, buildings, etc. over a five year period is $9.3 million.  The Maine Standardbred Breeders Stakes program remains an important component to economic development and farmland preservation.  

Cantab Fashion will stand in 2022 for a $2,000 stud fee at KDM Farm in Monmouth, Maine.  As an additional incentive breeders can get a great deal on three consecutive breeding seasons for just $4,000.
