SBOANJ announces breeders incentive programs for 2020
The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey will again offer a resident mare rebate as well as pacing stallion incentive program in 2020.
WDLR and OHHA unveil new radio show
The Ohio Harness Horsemen’s Association, in partnership with WDLR Radio of Delaware, Ohio, is creating a new half hour radio show focusing on harness racing in the Buckeye State. “Horsing Around” is scheduled to debut Saturday (Feb. 15) at 9 a.m.
2020 HRM stallion breeding auction deadline nears
The Harness Racing Museum and Hall of Fame has an outstanding list of stallions for this year’s breeding auction. Bids on the listed breedings must be called in, emailed or postmarked by this Saturday (Feb. 15). The breedings that do not receiving successful bids by the close of the auction may be available after that date.

An incredible ride for Jim Avritt Sr.
Jim Avritt Sr. bought his first Standardbred in 1963 when he was a senior at Xavier University and nearly 60 years later continues to enjoy the thrills of racing and breeding. On Feb. 23 in Orlando, Fla., Avritt’s Precocious Beauty will be honored as the Pacing Broodmare of the Year at the U.S. Harness Writers Association’s Dan Patch Award banquet. Precocious Beauty is the dam of Tall Dark Stranger, who that same night will receive the Dan Patch Award for best 2-year-old male pacer. Earlier this month, Tall Dark Stranger picked up the O’Brien Award in Canada.
Drinkin Again set to defend Preferred Title at Freehold Saturday
Phil Jasper’s Drinkin Again has quickly taken a liking to Freehold Raceway, with three wins over the track in his last eight races. Last out, he won the Preferred Handicap Pace by a half-length at 12-1. He’ll seek to defend his title on Saturday (Feb. 15), lining up against seven contenders.
