Vegas Dream goes the distance at Dayton
Hollywood Dayton Raceway continued its experiment with odd-distance races on Tuesday afternoon (Nov. 12), carding a 1-1/4 mile contest for mid-range condition and claiming pacers. Even money favorite Vegas Dream (Jeremy Smith) hit the jackpot, scoring in 2:28.3 on a frigid afternoon over JDS Chancey Design (Austin Hanners) and Time To Casper (Trevor Smith).
Blue Ivy wins third straight in Meadows distaff
Hammered down to 1-9 in the wagering, Blue Ivy was as powerful as the odds suggested, pouring through the sloppy Lightning Lane to capture her third straight in Tuesday’s (Nov. 12) feature at The Meadows, a $13,500 fillies and mares conditioned pace.
Breeders Crown champion American History to be retired and stand at Deo Volente Farms
Brittany Farms, Marvin Katz, and American History Racing have announced the retirement of American History (American Ideal-Perfect Touch) after his final race on Nov. 23 in the TVG at The Meadowlands.
Breeders Crown reunion in Thursday’s Matron Stakes at Dover
All four 3-year-old Breeders Crown champions — Dancin Lou, Gimpanzee, Warrawee Ubeaut, and Winndevie — return to action for the first time since their Crown triumphs when Dover Downs hosts Matron Stakes for sophomore pacers and trotters on Thursday. A total of 19 Breeders Crown finalists will be racing in the Matrons. Gimpanzee, who won the 3-year-old colt-and-gelding trot, faces four Breeders Crown finalists, including recent Carl Erskine Trot winner Don’t Let’em and Erskine runner-up Chin Chin Hall.
SBOANJ annual meeting set for Nov. 15
The SBOANJ will hold their annual board meeting at Freehold Raceway on Nov. 15, the same day as the $50,000 SBOANJ sponsored 3-year-old trot series final.
Seven for SBOANJ Trot final at Freehold Friday
The Standardbred Breeders and Owners Association of New Jersey trotting series for 3-year-olds concludes on Friday (Nov. 15) at Freehold Raceway with the $50,000 final. The race is scheduled as the third on the 11-race Friday program, and drew a field of seven.
No eliminations required for trio of Fall Freshman Final Four stakes
Entries were taken at The Meadowlands Tuesday morning (Nov. 12) for the Fall Freshman Final Four Grand Circuit stakes. With ten or fewer horses declared in three of the four races, eliminations became unnecessary for those and all horses that were entered in those stakes will move directly to the final. Only the Three Diamonds filly pace with a dozen declared will require a single elimination.
Shartin N still first; top five remain unchanged in poll
Only one horse in the Hambletonian Society/Breeders Crown top 10 was in action last week, but there will be more action from that group in the next two days. Shartin N, the No. 1-ranked horse in the poll for each of its 25 weeks, races Wednesday in the $40,000 fillies-and-mares invitational at Dover Downs. Also in that race is Caviart Ally, who sits just outside the top 10.
Stallion Stakes highlight Pompano Monday
The FSBOA Stallion Stakes for 3-year-olds highlighted the Monday (Nov. 11) racing program as non-wagering events at Pompano Park with more than $120,000 up for grabs in the four events.
