Going to post will be three $38,000-plus divisions of Sire Stakes, two $15,000 splits of the Excelsior A class and a $6,700 Excelsior B event.

Contract extension, format change announced for Hambletonian at The Meadowlands
The Hambletonian Society and The Meadowlands Racetrack have signed a two-year contract extension guaranteeing the host venue of the $1.2 million Hambletonian, $600,000 Hambletonian Oaks and the $400,000 Hambletonian Maturity through 2023. The Hambletonian has undergone multiple format changes and been raced at six host tracks since 1926. The racing conditions allow for flexibility in the format, and in 2020 eliminations will be contested the week before to determine the final field.

Graduate keeping stars in sight
Finding a way to keep harness racing’s marquee performers on the track has always been a puzzle that if solved would allow the sport’s fan base to follow equine standouts not only through the end of their 3-year-old seasons, but beyond. Last Saturday (May 4) at The Meadowlands, the sport’s traveling road show for 4-year-olds — the Graduate Series — made its first stop of 2019, and many of the top sophomore pacing performers from 2018 were behind the gate in the two divisions of the series’ opening leg.
