John Stark Jr’s Xcuseme (RC Royalty) will head into next week’s final of the John Mongeon Memorial Trotting Series as the big favorite. The 3-year-old trotter cruised to his fourth consecutive victory on Wednesday’s (April 24) matinee card going back-to-back in the two legs of the series and staying undefeated in 2019. Xcuseme made pretty easy work of his competition as he coasted to a wire-to-wire victory in 1:58.1, the fastest time of the leg two winners.

Jason Bluhm named Dayton director of racing
On Wednesday (April 24) Hollywood Gaming at Dayton Raceway today announced Ohio native Jason Bluhm as the new director of racing. He will start Monday (April 29) pending customary regulatory approvals.
Reminder to submit NYSS yearling nomination forms by May 15
Owners are reminded to complete and submit yearling nominations for foals of eligible mares bred to registered stallions standing in New York State in 2017. This nomination will allow horses to be eligible to the lucrative New York Sire Stakes program and compete as 2-year-olds in 2020 and 3-year-olds in 2021. Proof of registration must accompany the nomination.

McWicked, 2018 Horse of the Year, impressive in qualifying race
McWicked, who was the 2018 Horse of the Year in both the U.S. and Canada, returned to the track Tuesday (April 23) for his first qualifier of the season. The 8-year-old pacing stallion and driver Wally Hennessey cruised around the five-eighths-mile oval at Pompano Park in 1:51.2, winning by 7-3/4 lengths over 3-year-old filly Prescient Beauty.
