U.S. Trotting Association President Russell Williams announced Tuesday (March 5) that former USTA President Phil Langley and USTA Director from District 1 Steve McCoy are the recipients of the annual USTA President’s Awards. Williams will present the awards at this year’s annual meetings in a Recognition Luncheon at the Hilton Columbus at Easton on Sunday (March 10).

Four weeks to the night of Yonkers Raceway’s first million-dollar night of 2019, the Raceway sashayed over seven figures once again. Monday night’s (March 4) dozen-race card saw total wagering of $1,001,439.

Brett Miller wins seven at Miami Valley matinee
Brett Miller dominated the Monday afternoon (March 4) action at Miami Valley Raceway winning one-half of the 14 races, a feat equaled only by leading driver Trace Tetrick last Monday (Feb. 25). Miller has picked up a dozen wins in the four programs Tetrick has been on vacation, narrowing the dash derby gap to 98-84 after 40 days of the 87-day meet. Their rivalry to determine top dog at season’s end will be revived Tuesday (March 5) when Tetrick returns to action.
2019 HHI annual meeting successful, well-attended
Harness Horsemen International wrapped up its annual meetings on Feb. 27 at the Embassy Suites Resort & Spa, Deerfield, Beach, Fla., following the HHI Awards Luncheon, where Salvatore DiMario (Dominic Frinzi Person of the Year), Foiled Again (Appreciation Award) and Chris Gooden (Hirt Media Award) were honored.

$10,686 Pick-5 carryover, $40,000 guaranteed pool for Pompano Monday
Fresh off a Sunday night card which established an all-time handle record of $1,367,165 at Pompano Park, there will be a $10,686 carryover in the 50-cent Pick-5 on Monday (March 4) evening. Track officials, in conjunction with the USTA’s Strategic Wagering Program, have added an instant guarantee of $40,000 to the total pool on Monday.
Record handle at Pompano; Miller-Tetrick Pro-Am goes to Team Miller
The Pompano Park toteboard practically exploded on Sunday night (March 3) as a mandatory payout in the track’s Super Hi-5 and the annual Miller-Tetrick Pro-Am event took center stage. Handle was $1.36 million, including a record pool in the Super Hi-5 in excess of $385,000, sending that total pool with the carryover soaring over the $540,000 plateau. The annual Miller-Tetrick Pro-Am Challenge was contested at the South Florida oval with the David Miller team edging the Tim Tetrick team 122-84 in the four race event benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation and New Vocations.
