Daley freshmen look to keep rolling in International Stallion Stakes
Trainer Noel Daley’s 2-year-olds have been off to a flying start through the first half of the 2023 season, and he comes into Saturday’s (Oct. 7) stakes action at the Red Mile with a pair looking to keep progressing off their success in his trotting filly Buy A Round and his pacing colt Captain Albano.
Jones enjoys fine ‘Line’
After a little bad luck in Canada, everything was good for Draw The Line in last week’s Bluegrass Stakes at the Red Mile. Dustin Jones — who bred, owns, and trains the 2-year-old female trotter — will hope fortune continues to smile upon the filly in Saturday’s first of four divisions of the International Stallion Stakes in Lexington.
Dame Good Time looks for good time in ISS
Going to the track as a kid initiated Robby Bath’s interest in harness racing. Attending a Harness Racing Youth Foundation camp created his passion. Bath participated in the HHYF program in the early 2000s. On Friday, the 33-year-old Pennsylvania native sends out Dame Good Time in the fifth of five International Stallion Stakes divisions for 2-year-old male trotters at Lexington’s Red Mile.
Undefeated Karl faces millionaire T C I in Red Mile showdown
A pair of elite freshmen will throw punches to kick off week two of the Grand Circuit meet at the Red Mile on Friday (Oct. 6): Karl, unbeaten in five starts, will put his record on the line against millionaire colt T C I, who has only one blemish on his 10-race resume.
Ken Hanover returns to work in Bluegrass
Ken Hanover is a horse that enjoys his job, and business time arrives again Saturday in the first of three divisions of the Bluegrass Stakes for 3-year-old male pacers at Lexington’s Red Mile. The start will come nine days after the colt won his elimination of the Little Brown Jug with a track-record performance and finished third in the final.
Prohibition Legal looks to move forward in Dayton Distaff Derby
Prohibition Legal was an O’Brien Award-winner at age 2 in 2021, when her only loss in nine starts was a second-place finish behind Dan Patch Award-recipient Niki Hill in the She’s A Great Lady Stakes. Following a one-win campaign last year, trainer Nick Gallucci gave the female pacer an extended rest before sending her into action this season. As the 4-year-old mare prepares for Saturday’s Dayton Distaff Derby, so far so good.
Tattoo Artist highlights Dayton Derbies
An evening of premier Grand Circuit racing quickly approaches Dayton Raceway as this coming Saturday (Sept. 30), the Dayton, Ohio, oval will host four divisions of the Dayton Derby. All four divisions of the Dayton Derby will be contested for purses of $250,000.
‘Magnifico’ magnificent for Keim
Life could not have been much better for Cote Keim last week, on and off the track. On Friday, the trainer saw his 2-year-old pacers Magnifico Hanover and Costa Diva finish first and second, respectively, in divisions of the Reynolds Memorial at Tioga Downs. A day later, his wife, Jamie, gave birth to the couple’s fourth child, a girl named Josie Frances Keim. He hopes to make this another memorable week, as well. On Friday, Keim will send out Magnifico Hanover in the second of four divisions of the Bluegrass Stakes for 2-year-old male pacers at Lexington’s Red Mile.
Confederate leads gangbusters Bluegrass card Saturday
The Red Mile will host North America’s best sophomores in competition on Saturday (Sept. 30) in Bluegrass action, including the sport’s current No. 1 horse Confederate when he starts in race six, the first division of the Bluegrass for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings.
