On a card where many glamour boys got their tightening miles ahead of the $1-million Pepsi North America Cup, aged horses sparred in their own stakes as Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted the kickoff to the Graduate Series and the second leg of the Miss Versatility on Saturday (June 3) night.

Yannick Gingras hoped to have Hillexotic add a little extra spice to Sunday’s $100,000 Maxie Lee Memorial Invitational for older trotters at Harrah’s Philadelphia, but settled for a world-record win. Six-year-old Hillexotic captured the Maxie Lee Memorial in 1:50.2, establishing the world record for a gelding trotter older than age 4.

Finding herself shuffled to a joint last with a quarter-mile to go in a stacked field, it was a surprise that Max Contract shook free and rallied to a 19-1 upset in Sunday’s (May 28) Betsy Ross Mares Pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia to most everyone.

Covered Bridge used a perfect covered trip to steamroll his way to victory in the C$150,000 Camluck Classic Invitational on Friday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District.

Tab another victory in the Arthur J. Cutler Memorial for driver Brian Sears and another Grand Circuit trotting win for trainer Marcus Melander. The dynamic team of trotting overhauled an oversized field of 11 with new acquisition Venerate to take the $155,200 free-for-all event on Saturday night (May 20) at the Meadowlands.

Khaosan Road went to the front from post one at the start of Saturday’s (May 6) $137,775 Dexter Cup and never relinquished the lead on his way to a one-length win over favorite Espresso in 1:57.4 at Freehold Raceway. Candy Bomber finished third.

Nancy Takter trainee Caviart Scotland etched his name in the Plainridge Park record books with a 1:50.3 win in the second division of Thursday’s (May 4) $100,000 Paul Revere Pace, breaking the stakes record as well as the track standard for 3-year-old pacing colts.
