Many storylines were in play leading to Saturday’s (June 10) Battle of Lake Erie. Tritton proved naysayers of her talent wrong with a heart-stopping performance, scoring an impressive win with Lochinvar Art A.

Judging by the performances of the fillies and mares competing in Saturday night’s eliminations for the Armbro Flight and Fan Hanover stakes at Woodbine Mohawk Park, their finals on the undercard of North America Cup night next Saturday should be very impressive.

Christchurch, Fulton, It’s My Show and Confederate will arrive at next Saturday’s C$1 million Pepsi North America Cup for 3-year-old male pacers at Woodbine Mohawk Park in winning form after taking their respective C$50,000 eliminations on Saturday night (June 10).

A pair of undercard stakes events for next Saturday’s cavalcade card, headlined by the C$1 million Pepsi North America Cup, now have their finalists determined. The Roses Are Red, for older pacing mares, and the Goodtimes, for trotting sophomores, each had two eliminations contested at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Friday night (June 9).

On a card where many glamour boys got their tightening miles ahead of the $1-million Pepsi North America Cup, aged horses sparred in their own stakes as Woodbine Mohawk Park hosted the kickoff to the Graduate Series and the second leg of the Miss Versatility on Saturday (June 3) night.

Last year’s two-year-old pacing colt of the year, Stockade Seelster, and two colts from the first crop of Stay Hungry, Redwood Hanover and Annapolis Hanover, captured the three C$75,000 divisions of the Somebeachsomewhere stakes Saturday (June 3) evening at Woodbine Mohawk Park.

George Napolitano Jr. floored the accelerator on Ruthless Hanover from race’s outset in the $100,000 Joseph Auger Memorial Invitational Pace, held Sunday (May 28) at Harrah’s Philadelphia, and the 6-year-old gelding responded with a 1:46.3 mile — the fastest ever on a five-eighths-mile track.

Yannick Gingras hoped to have Hillexotic add a little extra spice to Sunday’s $100,000 Maxie Lee Memorial Invitational for older trotters at Harrah’s Philadelphia, but settled for a world-record win. Six-year-old Hillexotic captured the Maxie Lee Memorial in 1:50.2, establishing the world record for a gelding trotter older than age 4.

Finding herself shuffled to a joint last with a quarter-mile to go in a stacked field, it was a surprise that Max Contract shook free and rallied to a 19-1 upset in Sunday’s (May 28) Betsy Ross Mares Pace at Harrah’s Philadelphia to most everyone.

Covered Bridge used a perfect covered trip to steamroll his way to victory in the C$150,000 Camluck Classic Invitational on Friday night at The Raceway at Western Fair District.
