Ciuffetelli wins AHDC race at Freehold

Freehold, NJ — Eight trotters went to post on Saturday (Feb. 29) in the seventh race on the card at Freehold, a leg of the AHDC amateur series.

In what has become a common theme in amateur racing, a speed duel ensued from the start between Southwind Dorian (Dawn Anderson) and Tough Get Going (Joe Faraldo). Anderson did not relinquish the lead and held onto it into the deep stretch, as Faraldo’s horse began to fade down the backside. She was challenged by post time favorite Tropical Storm Bi (Tony Ciuffetelli), who made his move at the three-quarter pole from third.

Tropical Storm Bi was able to overtake the leader in the deep stretch and ending up winning by three-quarters of a length. Anderson and Southwind Dorian hung on gamely for second and Noble Warrawee (Mike Polansky) got up for third. The time of this trotting event was 1:59.4.

The winner is an 8-year-old gelding by Yankee Glide and is owned, trained and driven by Ciuffetelli.

Next week another AHDC event will take place on Saturday at Freehold with post time for the first race scheduled for 12:35 p.m.
