Clearfield Fair concludes with sophomore pacers

Clearfield, PA — The four-day race meet at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds in Clearfield, Pa., concluded with nine heats for sophomore pacers.

Straight Character was a 2:00.3 winner for David Brickell.

In the Pennsylvania Sire Stake sophomore colt pace, Straight Character came from behind to score in 2:00.3 for driver David Brickell in the first division. Owned and trained by Bob Krenitsky, Jr., Straight Character (Shady Character) has now won six of 17 starts on the year.

Brickell returned to the winner’s circle in the second split in an identical time of 2:00.3, this time with Stately’s Revenge, owned and trained by Bob Krenitsky, Sr. Stately’s Revenge, a son of The Panderosa, won his second straight on the circuit.

The final division was won by Yogi Hanover (The Panderosa) and driver Timmy Offutt in wire-to-wire fashion. Owned by trainer Joe Offutt along with his wife, Karen, Yogi Hanover set a new lifetime mark with the 2:03 mile.

Four groups of fillies battled in Pennsylvania Sire Stake action, and Kalua Killean won her second straight with a 2:05.3 win. Chris Oluvic owns and trains the Allamerican Ingot filly, now a three-time winner in 18 starts. Eddie McNeight was the winning driver.

Roger Hammer then won the next two divisions, guiding Bliss Falcon (Blissfull Hall) and My Gal Mykenna (Real Artist) to wins. Bliss Falcon, solely owned by Hammer, scored in 2:03, the fastest of her three wins this season. My Gal Mykenna, owned by Hammer in partnership with Nevin Gilbert, paced in 2:01.2 for her fifth straight win on the circuit.

In the final filly pacing division, Michigan invader Do Me First was a winner for trainer/driver Al Tomlinson in 2:04.2. The Allamerican Ingot filly is owned by Tomlinson along with Engle Equine, LLC.

Blissful Bay (Blissfull Hall) opened the day with a 2:05.2 win in the first division of the Quaker Stake. The gelding is owned by Louis Manfredi, while Wayne Long trains and was in the bike.

In the second Quaker division, Whiting Hanover picked up his first career win in his 27th start for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel. The Dragon Again gelding paced the mile in 2:04.3. Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel own the winner.

After the final race, Roger Hammer was presented with the Buster DeSalvo award, given annually to the meet’s leading driver. Hammer posted six wins during the week to earn the trophy.
