Countdown to Prix d’Amérique continues

Paris — The third qualifying race for the Prix d’Amérique is the Prix de Bourgogne, which will take place Sunday afternoon (Dec. 31) at Vincennes.

The distance is 2,100 meters (1-5/16 miles), and in French terms, this is a “sprint race.” At Vincennes, no race is contested over a shorter distance.

Eighteen trotters were entered, but Moni Viking — a Swedish trotter owned by Norwegian connections — is scratched.

Three starting spots for the Prix d’Amérique are up for grabs, although several of the starters have earnings, which will anyway give them spots in the Prix d’Amérique.

So far, eight of 18 total spots have been handed out, and from the Prix de Bourgogne and Prix de Belgique (to be raced in a fortnight), six more are up for grabs.

The favorite in Sunday’s race, which €120,000 purse and €54,000 winner’s share is Phillippe Allaire-trained Hohneck with Gabriele Gelormini in the bike. The 6-year-old has had a banner year with big stakes wins in the Elitlopp as well as the UET Elite final.

Post time for the Prix de Bourgogne is 9:15 a.m. EST. The race will be streamed live at www.letrot.com.
