Crossfit stuns at 19-1 in Harrah’s Philadelphia feature

Chester, PA — Despite being parked for the first three-eighths of a mile, Crossfit proved his toughness in the stretch and sprang a 19-1 upset over Winnerup in the $13,600 featured trot on Thursday afternoon (Aug. 13) at Harrah’s Philadelphia.

After working hard to achieve control, Crossfit turned back a late challenge from 1-9 favorite Winnerup by 1-1/4 lengths and equaled his lifetime mark of 1:54.2. Corey Callahan drove the Donato Hanover gelding for trainer Ron Burke and owner Joe Sbrocco.

Another Burke trainee in Goes Down Smooth accounted for the fastest trotting mile on the card, leaving his rivals 10-3/4 lengths behind in a new lifetime best of 1:52.2, just two-fifths of a second behind Scirocco Rob’s track record for 4-year-old trotting geldings. David Miller drove the son of Muscle Hill for the Burke Racing Stable, Weaver Bruscemi, William Switala and James Martin.

In the $11,600 sub-feature, Henderson Seelster rallied from second-over to defeat Bluebird Jesse by a neck in 1:53.3. Tim Tetrick was aboard for trainer Paul Stafford and owner Thomas Ceraso Jr.
