by Bill Peters, Regional Coordinator, the Ohio Fair Racing Conference

Edgerton, OH — The Cuyahoga County Fair at Berea, Ohio, played host to the eighth stop on the Ohio Fair Racing Conference schedule on Tuesday (Aug. 11). A big “hats-off” to Gail Wind and other fair board members for having a successful day of harness racing.

The fastest race of the day came in the second division of the Free For All Pace when the 6-year-old gelding Jimmy Rip (Ponder-Odds On Color) came home in 2:00.1. Kurt Sugg drove Jimmy Rip for owner Jody Emrich and trainer Clair Umholtz.

Defiant Victory (Victory Sam-GT’s Defiance) turned in the fastest trotting mile on the card when she toured the Berea oval in 2:05.2 in capturing the 3-year-old filly trot. Mike Medors trains the filly and also co-owns her with Tina Sutermeister while Duke Sugg picked up the winning catch-drive.

Kurt Sugg was the leading driver on the day with five wins. He also shared the training honors with Tye Loy and Mike Medors as each found the winner’s circle on two occasions.

Ohio Fair Racing Conference action resumes at the Attica Independent Fair in Attica where racing takes place on Wednesday (Aug. 12) and Thursday (Aug. 13). Wednesday’s post time is 6 p.m. while Thursday’s races get underway at 1 p.m.
