Columbus, OH — The partners of Avatar Ventures/Darkhorsebet were pleased with the results of their recent handle driven donation drive to contribute to the victims of Hurricane Sandy. The company’s pledge to donate 25 cents for every dollar wagered through www.darkhorsebet.com on Nov. 22 to the Red Cross Hurricane Sandy relief fund produced a contribution of $4,370.

Giving to charity is a year-round endeavor for the online horse race watching and wagering site that offers their customers the opportunity to support groups that are directly involved with the racing industry, through their unique “Choose A Charity” program. Players simply select one of their listed charities and Darkhorsebet gives .1 percent of that player’s handle to the chosen charity at the end of the year.

“It is at no cost to the player.” explained Managing Director Mike Weiss. “It is our way of saying thanks for choosing us as your player’s site and doing some good by giving back to the horse racing community. It is a win, win.”

Charities benefiting from the program are the American Standardbred Adoption Program, Mid-Atlantic Horse Rescue, New Vocations, the Permanently Disabled Jockeys Fund and The Retirement Assistance and Care for Equines Fund.
