Hamburg, NY — Davey Day Trader ($6.20) strutted his stuff for his new barn at Buffalo Raceway on Saturday afternoon (May 3) as he squashed the field by six lengths in a lifetime best 1:54 in taking the featured $14,500 Open Pace.
After being claimed for $16,500 back on April 19 by James Costa and Peter Kibler, the new connections saw Davey Day Trader claim third place in his only start for them in the Open Pace on April 26. But it was a different story with this outing.

Starting from the two post, Davey Day Trader (David McNeight III) managed to collect the early advantage and was able to park last week’s winner Panettone Hanover along the way. With snappy fractions of :27.3 and :55.4 in the books over the sloppy track, Panettone Hanover started to retreat while Davey Day Trader picked up the pace, hitting the three-quarter marker in 1:25.
With a five length lead at the top of the stretch, Davey Day Trader just stayed on task and romped to the six length win. Stranger Things (Kevin Cummings) won the battle for place while Panettone Hanover (Kyle Cummings) managed to hold on for show honors.
Trained by David McNeight Jr., the 5-year-old Davey Day Trader (Huntsville-Gigi Deo) has won three times in five starts this year. The victory upped his 2025 earnings to $22,490 and to $113,887 lifetime.
In the $12,500 pace, JJ Landon ($5.10) made it three straight wire-to-wire victories with a hard fought neck decision over Soul Assassin in 1:55.
JJ Landon (Joseph Chindano Jr.) managed to grab the front end and notched splits of :28.1, :57 and 1:25.3. The final quarter-mile became a two horse breakaway as JJ Landon and Soul Assassin (Drew Monti) battled to the wire. But it was JJ Landon that showed plenty of courage and never relinquished the lead to Soul Assassin. Confidence Man (Kevin Cummings) took the show position.
Co-owned by Rocco Stebbins and Benjamin Ortiz, JJ Landon (Tobago Cays-J J Mistress) is trained by Shawn McDonough. The 5-year-old gelding was now won five times in 15 season’s appearances, putting $32,386 in the bank on the campaign and $69,261 in his career.
Chindano and Kyle Cummings had driving triples on the day with Kevin Cummings and David McNeight III each getting a pair. Samuel Smith had three training victories and Tammy Cummings had a pair.
Racing will resume on Wednesday afternoon at 2:30 p.m. with a 12-race card.
