East Rutherford, NJ — The first race and only GSY Series race on Friday night’s(May 27) Big M card saw nine trotters go to post.

Under clear skies and balmy 83 degree weather, the action at the firstcall heated up just like the temperature this past week on the East Coast. As the gate opened, several horses left, as iscustomary in many amateur races, and they were four wide into the firstturn. After a fast :28 flat first quarterand a breaker in the first turn, things finally settled down when the veteran Peter Gerry, aboard Meadow Seelster took the lead. He controlled the front until the top of thestretch but was challenged down the backside when No Recess, with Bob Hechkoff, pulled first up and almost cleared Gerry but couldn’t. That is when other horses pulled to try totake the lead but to no avail.

A patientDavid Glasser, aboard last week’s winner, Feisty Love, got away last and had tomove four-wide at the three-quarter pole, but took command midway down the lane to win byjust over a length with his whip tucked away. A tough luck Joe Lee, aboard post time favorite, Dreams of Thunder, could not find clearance up the cones until late in the stretch to finishsecond. Gerry held onto third.

The race was timed in 1:55 and Glasser’s maretrotted a fast last quarter mile in :27.4. FeistyLove is an 8-year-old mare by Angus Hall and is owned by Edward and JamesHall Jr. and trained by Daniel Gill.

Next Friday (June 3), the GSY Series Amateur Series will return withthe same conditions and racing as the Big M heats up going into thesummer.

Come out and enjoy some liveharness racing with the first post at 7:15 p.m.
