David Morris, 88, dies

Columbus, OH — David W. Morris, 88, of Saratoga Springs, N.Y., died Jan. 13, 2024, at home.

Born in Albany, Mr. Morris graduated from Albany Law School in 1961 and was a practicing attorney for more than 60 years. In 1973, he became Executive Vice-President and Director of Saratoga Harness Track. In 1974, he became the Saratoga Harness Track President, a position he held until 1987 when the track was sold.

Mr. Morris served on the Albany Law School Board of Trustees for many years and was awarded the Board of Trustees’ Gold Medal Award in 1991.

In 2021, he was inducted into the Saratoga Harness Hall of Fame.

He was a board member of Harness Tracks of America and the USTA, and served as chairman of the USTA’s rules committee, a position he took great pride in holding.

Mr. Morris was an avid golfer who played on courses all over the world. He was a great storyteller who could recall with detail each case he tried. He was quick-witted and always had a humorous overtone to his conversations.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Brenda; children, David, Nancy (Bill) Flores, Kathleen (Robert) Hinckley, Karen (Rob) Hilton, Caroline (Clyde) Lounsbury, Suzanne and Jennifer (Keith) McKeever; grandchildren, Rachel (Tyler) Ross, Megan, David (Daphne) Flores, Thomas Flores, Sarah (Brendan) Phillips, Jared Flores, Keira (Jonathan) Fazioli, Lauren, Emily Kowalczyk, Zachary Hinckley, Bradley Kowalczyk, Anna Flores, Claire Kowalczyk (Taylor Simon), Daniel Hinckley, William Hilton, Leah Hilton, Camryn Lounsbury, Connor Lounsbury, and Cooper Lounsbury; and great-grandchildren, Garrett Hodgson, Chase Hodgson, Benjamin Ross, Eleanor Ross, Charlotte Ross, Theodore Fazioli, Oliver Fazioli, Harrison Jenkins, Aurora Flores, Leo, and Freya Phillips.

There will be no services, per his wishes.
