Delia du Pommereux ready for her fifth Prix d’Amerique

The 10-year-old French mare Delia du Pommereux, trained by Sylvain Roger and with Pierre-Yves Verva in the sulky, won the Prix de Bourgogne Sunday afternoon (Jan. 1) at Vincennes and is now qualified to race in the Prix d’Amerique.

This will be the fifth year in a row she will race in the world’s toughest trotting race. Her best performance so far is a fourth place in 2021.

Delia du Pommereux won in 1:52 (mile rate), which is a new race record; the old record was held by Texas Charm, who won the race in 2013 in 1:52.3 (mile rate).

Second behind Delia du Pommereux was Flamme du Goutier, who also got a wild card to the big race, while third place finisher Ampia Mede SM already had earned her spot.

It was a race dominated by mares, who were the first four finishers; after Delia du Pommereux, Flamme du Goutier and Ampia Mede SM came Decoloration.

One more qualification race is left — the Prix de Belgique — to be raced at Vincennes on Jan. 15.
