Donald Brown, 96, dies

Columbus, OH — Donald R. Brown, 96, died peacefully on Aug. 17, 2022.

He was born in Spencer, Mass., on Feb. 17, 1926, to Alfred and Yvonne (Perron) Brown.

He proudly served in the United States Army motor pool during the Korean War.

Mr. Brown was known for his love of horses and old western television shows.

He enjoyed his profession as a Standardbred trainer (he started two half-brothers in the Little Brown Jug, Emergency Signal and Marced Card). He retired from training horses at age 80 after Marced Card raced in the Little Brown Jug.

Mr. Brown is survived by his sister, Gloria McKissick; brother, Ronald; and a large family of nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express special thanks to the caregivers at Brookhaven Assisted Living.

A private burial will be held in Mary, Queen of the Rosary Cemetery in Spencer. Arrangements are under the care of Pillsbury Funeral Home, 44 Gilbert St., North Brookfield.
