Milton, ON – A quartet of Ontario Sires Stakes (OSS) Gold events were contested at Woodbine Mohawk Park on Monday night (Sept. 29), with driver Doug McNair piloting the first three winners.
Both A Clean Deal and Flowing Tribute won their fourth Gold events of the year. A Clean Deal won the C$140,000 event for 2-year-old pacing fillies in 1:50.3. Flowing Tribute won her C$90,000 Gold event for 2-year-old trotting fillies in 1:55, with Cher Hill taking the other C$90,000 event in 1:54.1. Finally, Touchedbyanangel won his first career Gold event the C$140,000 event for 2-year-old trotting colts in a career best 1:54.2.
A Clean Deal (McNair) got the ball rolling in race two, defeating a pocket-sitting Daya by three-quarters of length in a field of six. The win improved the daughter of Cattlewash-Ideal Talker to 5-0-1 in six career starts and upped her bankroll to C$304,464 for owners Yolanda Fellows, Blair Corbeil, Windermere Stables and James Ross. A Clean Deal was bred by Winbak Farm, was purchased for $20,000 U.S. at the 2024 Lexington Selected Yearling Sale and is trained by Rob Fellows. A Clean Deal was sent off as the 6-5 favorite and paid $2.50.
In race four, second-choice Cher Hill (McNair) won a cavalry charge in the stretch after front-running Greek Manalishi (Todd Ratchford) faded. Cher Hill edged fellow closer Cupid Hall by a neck, with favorite Bingo Night (Tyler Jones) just a half-length in arrears. The win improved the homebred daughter of Muscle Mass-Lauramarie Hill to 3-0-2 in nine career outings and upped her bankroll to C$127,837 for Tom Hill of England. The Gregg McNair trainee was sent off at 9-5 and paid $5.60.
In race six, Touchedbyanangel (McNair) out-dueled favorite Strobe Light (James MacDonald) by a head to improve to 2-1-0 in 10 career starts and increase his bankroll to C$187,387 for Yoland Fellows, Blair Corbeil, Mike McAllister and Peter Porter. Bred by Blair and Erna Corbeil, the Rob Fellows-trained son of Archangel-Rubys Are Nice was purchased for $70,000 U.S. at last year’s Standardbred Horse Sale. Sent off at 9-1, Touchedbyanangel paid $21.50.
In race eight, Bob McClure spoiled McNair’s four-peat by going gate-to-wire with favorite Flowing Tribute and defeating Barbara May by 1-3/4 lengths for trainer Paul Reid and owners Patrick Dillon, Laurie Rooney, Brian Kleinberg and Richard Beinhauer. The daughter of Green Manalishi S out of Watch The Show, bred by Diane Ingham and Brenda Barnim, is now 5-1-0 in six starts and sports earnings of C$210,600. Sent off at 1-5, Flowing Tribute paid $2.50.
