Columbus, OH — Douglas Lee Bartley, 80, of Richmond, Ky., died Dec. 16, 2024, at the University of Kentucky Chandler Medical Center.
Mr. Bartley, the son of Morgan and Frances (née Freeman) Bartley, was born in Detroit on June 2, 1944. He graduated from Michigan Institute of Technology and had worked for Ford Motor Company. He went on to work for and retired as a supervisor of surface mining for the State of Kentucky. His greatest passion was geology, and he was a member of The Geological Society of America. He took great pride in his work and enjoyed mentoring others.
Later in life, he began breeding and racing Standardbred horses and, among other places, had raced at the Red Mile.
Mr. Bartley is survived by his wife of 15 years, Elizabeth Keene; and brother, Tom (Lynne). In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth.
Visitation will be held Friday, Dec. 20, at Combs, Parsons & Collins Funeral Home, 328 West Main Street, Richmond, KY 40475, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., followed immediately by a memorial service.
