Dr. Thomas Lazzaro, 77, dies

Columbus, OH — It is with deep sorrow that the family and friends of Dr. Thomas Lazzaro announce his passing on Dec. 8, 2019, at age 77.

Dr. Lazzaro will be remembered for his dedication to the treatment of mental illness. He earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from Syracuse University and his Doctorate at The University of Southern Illinois.

Dr. Lazzaro was passionate about the theater, even investing in several plays. His family and friends have many fond memories sharing time at the theater in both New York City and Syracuse.

Perhaps his biggest passion was harness racing. He has been a long standing member of the USTA, since the 1960s. Recent years have been good to Dr. Lazzaro, horse-wise. He owned all or part of Shnitzledosomethin, Apple Bottom Jeans, Divas Image, Every Way Out, Theresademoninme, and Lazzaro, among many others. He never missed watching his horses race.

Dr. Lazzaro is survived by his two children, Althea (Mahim) and Tyson (Jennifer); longtime companion, Donna DeSiato; and many relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Saturday (Dec. 14) at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception Church, with the funeral mass at the church, 259 East Onondaga Street, Syracuse N.Y., and burial at St. Mary’s Cemetery in DeWitt, N.Y.
