Columbus, OH — Following the ninth race at MGM Northfield Park on Tuesday night (March 25), driver Skip De Mull had a medical incident on the track after finishing fourth with BB Fire and after being taken to the hospital passed away.
Mr. De Mull was 67 years old.
Mr. De Mull was transported to Cleveland Clinic Hillcrest Hospital where he underwent emergency heart surgery according to a Facebook post from his wife Julie last night, who wrote, “Please prayer warriors Skip needs a lot of help tonight. He suffered a heart attack tonight (Tuesday) after the 9th race & is having emergency surgery right now to repair around his heart where they removed a blood clot…”
Following is a statement from MGM Northfield Park on the passing of Mr. De Mull.
“MGM Northfield Park is saddened to learn of the passing of driver Skip De Mull. Following Tuesday’s ninth race, while driving BB Fire, Skip suffered a medical emergency after the wire. Skip was transported to a local hospital, where he passed away.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with his wife Julie, his family and friends, and the harness racing community during this difficult time.”
