Toronto, ON — Prohibitive favorite Economy Terror and driver Brian Sears roared down the stretch to post a convincing 1-1/4 length win over Handsoffmycookie in the $600,000 Breeders Crown 2-year-old Filly Pace on Saturday (Oct. 29) at Woodbine Racetrack.
It was the seventh win in 10 starts for the daughter of Western Terror-Mattatonic, who paced the mile in a track record-equaling 1:51. Pirouette Hanover finished third, with Shelliscape fourth.
Trained by Chris Oakes for Pennsylvania owners Chuck Pompey, Howard Taylor and Edwin Gold, Economy Terror pushed her career bankroll to over C$734,000 with the victory.
A full sister to 2009 Breeders Crown champion Yellow Diamond, Economy Terror has not finished worse than second in a sparkling juvenile campaign. She has been a runner-up on three occasions, including a second place finish in the rich She’s A Great Lady Stakes on Sept. 3 at Mohawk Racetrack.
Economy Terror returned $3.50 to win.
“It was unbelievable,” said co-owner Chuck Pompey. “I thought she would be good, but you never know. It was unbelievable. I’m at a loss for words. Everything we’ve asked her to do, she’s done. This exceeds anything I could ever imagine. Down the stretch, I was just thinking, keep on coming.”
“It was awesome,” added co-owner Howard Taylor. “It was everything I could hope for, and then some. It’s bittersweet because (Buck I St Pat) is not here, my favorite horse ever. But (Economy Terror) is getting to be a close second. She’s just been a dream come true. Come down the stretch, Brian looked confident so I was confident. She did it and she looked like she did it easy. She’s got a wicked brush.”
