Check Me Out set a stakes record in the Breeders Crown 2-year-old filly trot.

The 2-5 favorite, who picked up driver Ron Pierce, sat behind a :28 opening panel before taking command before the half in :57.1. The pair held the lead past the three-quarters in 1:26.4.

Check Me Out, who won last week’s elimination, opened up in the stretch to score the victory by 1-3/4 lengths over Win Missy B (Brian Sears) with For A Dancer (Jeff Gregory) finishing third.

The daughter of Donato Hanover-Illusion Bi has a lifetime record of 12-2-0 in 14 starts and career earnings of C$824,731 for trainer Ray Schnittker who owns a piece of the bay with Charles Iannazzo of Tappan, N.Y.

Check Me Out paid $2.90 to win.

“I’m a pretty lucky guy; it was pretty easy,” said driver Ron Pierce. “I let (Brian) Sears cross over in front of me, knowing he would give me good cover, raced to the top easy enough. This filly is a very good filly. You know what, I didn’t have to ask her to go, she did all the work.”

“I’m kind of excited right now,” said co-owner Charles Iannazzo. “It was a great race and we beat a great filly (Win Missy B), too. She really is something special, but we have something a little special also. I’m really, really excited.

“I was part of the Deweycheatumnhowe group, so this is really special. Everyone said you’d never have another great horse again; you had one. But it looks like we do have another one. I’m just ecstatic. I want to give credit to Steve Jones, he raises a great horse. And Ray does a great job training.”
