Batavia, NY – For the second time in her last four starts, Elegant Woman N won the $12,500 Open for fillies and mares at Batavia Downs on Wednesday (Nov. 12) night and she did so in very impressive fashion on a cold night over an off-track.

Drew Monti sent Elegant Woman N right to the front and took control of the proceedings from there. She marched off fractions of :28.2, :58 and 1:26.3 with Tres Chic Bluechip (Joe Chindano Jr.) drafting in the pocket and Rightfully Mine (Kyle Swift) making a mild bid in the breeze at three-quarters. As the race progressed through the fourth turn, Elegant Woman N started to separate from the field. She was on top by 1-½ lengths at the head of the stretch and then cruised home unencumbered to win by 2-¼ lengths in 1:55.4.
It was the eighth win of the year for Elegant Woman N ($2.84) who is owned by Vogel and Wags Nags, Jack Rice, her trainer Maria Rice and her driver, Drew Monti.
There was a big payout in the night’s final race when the Jackpot Super Hi-5 pentafecta was hit. The single unique winning combination of 9-3-8-5-4 returned $3,542.78 for the 20-cent wager.
Drivers Kevin Cummings and Jim McNeight Jr. and trainer Sam Smith all scored three wins on Wednesday.
