New Brunswick, NJ — The Rutgers Equine Science Center will host its 2010 Equine Science Update on Tuesday, Dec. 14, from 6–9 p.m. The annual event will be held at the Cook Campus Center on the G.H. Cook Campus. Additional event details and directions are available on the homepage of the Equine Science Center website.

The Equine Science Update is an opportunity to unite equine professionals, horse owners, farm owners and stable managers, educators and students, 4-H members, and equine enthusiasts for the purpose of presenting the Equine Science Center’s research initiatives and work in advancing horse industry issues and challenges.

Faculty researchers and their supporting team members are currently working to further the Equine Science Center’s mission of better horse care through research and education. Presentations during the Update will include:

• Highlights of Center Activity
• Cranberries, Boots & Helmets: An Overview of Nutraceuticals for Horses
• Effects of Age and Training on Glucose Metabolism in Horses
• Going “Wild” with Mustangs and Metabonomics
• How Gut-Derived Bacteria Influence the Incidence of Laminitis
• The “Scoop on Poop”: Latest Environmental Best Management Practices for Horse Farms

“Research, education, and of course, horses, are at the core of everything we do and the Equine Science Update provides the perfect occasion to celebrate our accomplishments and share research findings with the actively engaged community we serve,” said Karyn Malinowski, director of the Equine Science Center.

The evening will start with dinner at 6 p.m.; optional tours prior to the Equine Science Update include a visit to the current crop of mustangs in the Young Horse Teaching and Research Program beginning at 4 p.m. at Ryders Lane farm and a demonstration of the Equine Science Center’s high-speed equine treadmill at 5 p.m. at the Equine Research Facility on College Farm Road in New Brunswick.
