Exarch tops in Saratoga Open

Saratoga Springs, NY — Exarch has become a force in the Open Trot at Saratoga Casino Hotel in recent months, and on Tuesday afternoon (July 13), the 6-year-old son of Cantab Hall notched his third top-level win of the season, a coast-to-coast 1:56.2 score.

After working hard to get to the top in a :27.3 first quarter, Exarch and driver Jimmy Devaux got a big-time breather in the middle half and reached three-quarters in 1:27.2. Pocket sitter Gigfy (Alek Chartrand) the winner’s coattails before coming up second, while Cash Me Out (Phil Fluet) finished third after winning the two previous Opens.

Exarch, whom John Gerow trains for the Fortune Valley Stables, has six wins this season and has hit the board in 14 of 18 starts this ear. Devaux piloted a pair of winners on the program to pad his lead atop the Saratoga driving standings.

Live racing continues on Wednesday afternoon (July 14) with a 14-race card featuring New York Sire Stakes for 3-year-old pacing colts and geldings. Post time is 12 noon.
