Hanners, Cheyenne Ryan Lee win Monticello debut

Monticello, NY — After visiting four tracks in the last month, perhaps Cheyenne Ryan Lee has found Monticello Raceway to his liking. On Tuesday (July 13), he took on the best pacers on the grounds in the $8,400 Open Pace with Luke Hanners in the bike.

Both Hanners and Cheyenne Ryan Lee made their Monticello debuts victorious. The 20-year-old Hanners won his Meadowlands debut last week, and continued his streak to capture his Monticello debut in fine fashion.

Starting from post position three, Cheyenne Ryan Lee was content to follow Foo Fighter N, the winner of last week’s Open Pace, through fractions of :27.2, :56 and 1:24.2. Once the passing lane was clear, Hanners went to the inside with Cheyenne Ryan Lee to overtake Foo Fighter N by two lengths in 1:53.3.

Cheyenne Ryan Lee is trained by Alexandra Goldin and owned by Antoinette F. Bencivenne. It was the fourth seasonal win for the 5-year-old gelded son of Roll With Joe, upping his yearly earnings to over $28,000.

Also on the card, Jim Taggart Jr. won three races, including the fastest mile of the afternoon, a snappy 1:53.2 performance from KJ Erich.
