Expo Wise As makes the double in Italy

For the first time since 2016 the classic Italian double for 3-year-old trotters, Derby Italiana del Trotto and Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli, was won by the same trotter.

Back in 2016 the filly Unicka won both races; now Expo Wise As did it.

Expo Wise As (sired by Ready Cash) and trained and driven by Alessandro Gocciadoro won the final in Orsi Mangelli easily in 1:56.1f followed two lengths behind by stablemate Edy Girifalco Gio with Santo Mollo.

The purse for the winner was 107,180 Euro.

The Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli, raced at the Vinovo track in Turin, is raced with two eliminations and a final.

In his elimination Expo Wise As had to share the victory with Edy Girifalco Gio in a dead heat, while the other elimination had the favorite Ector Francis with G. di Nardo first past the post, but Ector Francis was disqualified for interference, so the victory went to Ehlert Par with Antonio di Nardo.

The Gran Premio Orsi Mangelli has a long history and at the list of previous winners well known trotters like the Hambletonian winners Malabar Man and Scarlet Knight can be found.

Also Alrajah One — now trained by Ake Svanstedt — has a victory in the Orsi Mangelli under his belt.
