Fair Roundup: Fair Circuit races in PA and Indiana

Saturday’s (July 17) edition of Fair Roundup features results stories from Dayton, Pa. and Kendallville, Ind.

PA Fair Circuit races in Dayton

Dayton, PA — The Pennsylvania Fair Circuit moved into Armstrong County for a two-day Sire Stake meet at the Dayton Fairgrounds in Dayton, Pa.

Three $4,100 divisions of the 2-year-old filly pace opened the day, and DVC Hopnattitude kept her fair record intact in the first group, winning in 2:02.2. Owned, trained and reined by David Brickell, DVC Hopnattitude, a daughter of Magical Mike, set a new lifetime mark by winning for the third time in three fair starts.

In the second division, McEver won her first career outing, coming from behind for a 2:09.2 win for driver Brad Provost. McEver, by McArdle, is owned by Beulah Bigley and trained by Kristen Spahn.

Brickell returned to the winner’s circle with another of his own fillies in the final division, guiding Uptown Dreamer for a 2:06.2 victory. A daughter of April Dreamer, Uptown Dreamer won for the first time in four career appearances.

In the first of three freshman colt trots, Chips A Cumin scored for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel in 2:10.1. Owned by Terry Schoeffel, Chips A Cumin is a homebred gelding by Chip Chip Hooray.

The second group was led by KT Tag I’m It (Tagliabue), who overcame a pair of breaks to win in 2:09.2. KT Tag I’m It, now a winner in three of four starts, is owned and trained by Ken Weaver, while Eddie McNeight picked up the winning drive.

Blueridge Dagon, a Donerail colt, won the final split in wire-to-wire fashion, cruising home in 2:12.2 for driver JC Miller, Jr. Owned and trained by Mike Gillock, Blueridge Dagon won his first race in his fourth start.

Four groups of freshman filly trotters were next, and the Weaver/McNeight combination won their second of the day with Witch’s Magic Brew in the first division. The CR Royal Magic filly has now won three in a row, covering the mile in 2:11.3.

In the second event, it was all Arizona Miss (SJ’s Caviar) as catch-driver Roger Hammer turned back a strong challenge by Ameronica (American Winner) and driver Wilbur Yoder to win in 2:10.

Girls’ Getaway, owned by Bill Altmeyer and trained by Terry Altmeyer, won the third split in 2:10.4. Chris Shaw catch-drove the Donerail filly.

In the final division, Juniata County posted an upset win for Yoder in 2:10.3. A Chip Chip Hooray filly, Juniata County is co-owned by trainer John McMullen and Michelle McMullen.

The day ended with three groups of pacing colts facing the starter. Evening Shadows (Blissfull Hall) kept his perfect record intact, winning for the third time in three career starts for owner/trainer Charles Von See. Chris Shaw picked up his second winning drive of the day, this one in 2:06.1.

The second division belonged to Stealth Flight, as the Blissfull Hall colt won easily in 2:06.3 for Schoeffel. Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel, Jim Reuther and Jerry Dedoszak own the gelding, who has now won two of three starts.

In the final event of the day, New Idea (Ponder) won his first race, pacing home in 2:07.4 for driver Brady Brown and his sister, trainer Ashley Brown. Bernard Callihan co-owns with the Browns.

IN Fair Circuit races in Kendallville

Kendallville, IN — The Noble County Community Fair at Kendallville, Indiana hosted the Indiana Fair circuit races on Saturday. A total of 27 races took place on a beautiful, sunny afternoon.

Elian’s Rosie (Southwind Elian-Secret Priority) captured the fastest division of the 2-year-old filly trot in 2:16.3 for trainer-driver Doug Rideout. Doug’s wife, Julie, owns the filly along with Alan White.

Both of the other divisions finished with a time of 2:19.4. Mike Peterson piloted JS Miss Joy (Exult Hanover-Miss Powerball) to victory in the second division for owners Jack and Sue Myers with Jack also doing the training. Doug Rideout returned to the winner’s circle in the third division with A Little Bit Fancy (Southwind Elian-Chelemark Calamity) for owners Alan White, Julie Rideout, and the Hoosier Pappy Racing West.

Trainer-driver Sam Hedington took the fastest division of the 3-year-old filly trot in 2:12.1 with Stingaling (Sos Lunar Eclipse-Miss Stinger). Sam co-owns the filly with his wife, Melody. The connections of Hoosier Pappy Racing LLC and trainer-driver Doug Rideout picked up another victory in the second division with LW Galie Rachel (Prague-Chelemark Calamity) after a mile in 2:16.1. The third split went to Hustlindlux (Keep It A Secret-Hustlindia) for trainer-driver Joe Putnam. Putnam shares the bills on the filly with Dr. James Johnson. Hustlindlux toured the Kendallville oval in 2:14.4.

Robbie Morrow steered Amber Wine (Panspacificflight-Southtown Nukes) to victory in the fastest of the four divisions of the 2-year-old filly pace with a mile in 2:09.1. Robert Morrow II is the filly’s owner and trainer. Isabelle-Bow (Dontgetinmyway-Appealing Bow) won the first split in 2:13.4 for trainer-driver Steve Pletcher. Steve also co-owns the filly with his wife, Vickie. Trainer-driver Mike Peterson retuned to the winner’s circle in the second division with Diamondblack (Dontgetinmyway-Ragtime Hall) after a mile in 2:14. Gary Peterson, Peterson Racing Stable, and R. G. Nash are the owners of Diamondblack. Amy Jo’s Angel (Mattnamaras Band-Meliss) proved victorious in the final division in 2:10. Chad Clark is the filly’s trainer-driver with Glenn and Jennifer Felver picking up the expenses.

There were also four divisions of the 3-year-old filly pace with the fastest going to Lvmetndr Bluegrass (Dorunrun Bluegrass-Lucky Dragon) in the second split after a mile in 2:07.4. Jack and Sue Myers own the filly with Jack doing the training and Andy Shetler performing the driving duties. The Ora Miller-trained Heartbrake Ridge (I Scoot Hanover-Burning Ridges) won the first division in 2:09.2. Miller co-owns the filly with Lori Wheeler, and the filly provided Mike Peterson with his third winning drive of the afternoon. Hel Low Helen (Whitefish Falls-Laag’s Amanda) won the third division in 2:09. Phil Eash and Carol Pastrick own Hel Low Helen with Phil doing the training and Jay Cross handling the driving. The final division went to Hillcrest Love (I Scoot Hanover-Surenuffinluvwithu) in 2:12.3. Zach Miller picked up the winning drive for owners Alvin and Lexi Miller with Alvin also doing the training.

I Want White Milk (Pine Raider-Wish For The Roses) won the fastest division of the 2-year-old colt trot with a mile in 2:13.1. Chad Clark and Glenn Felver co-own the gelding with Chad also being the trainer-driver. Owner-trainer-driver Carrie Hollman won another split in 2:14.2 with Indiancreek Joe (B Fair-Win With Val). The final division went to Hoosier Concept (Ripken’s Victory-Nila Domarr) in 2:17.1 for owner-trainer-driver Harley Yoder.

Trainer-driver Doug Rideout found the winner’s circle for the fourth time on the program with a win in the fastest division of the 3-year-old colt trot behind Butler Bulldog (Butler Hall-Discipline). The gelding won in a time of 2:08 for owners Alan White and Julie Rideout. Rideout picked up a winning catch-drive in the second split with Sir Spur (Dakota Spur-Elegant Sea) in 2:09.4. Lavon Miller owns Sir Spur with Leroy Slabaugh being the trainer. The final division went to Dakota Dan (Keep It A Secret-Ol’s Miss Dakota) in 2:15.2. Joe and Rebecca Putnam own the colt along with Dr. James Johnson with Joe doing the training and driving.

The time of 2:08.1 was the fastest of the three splits of the 2-year-old colt pace with two of the divisions ending in that time. Kilabug Cary (Kilowatt-Miss Cuddle Bug) captured the second split for trainer-driver Chad Clark with Glenn and Jennifer Felver being the owners. Hillcrest Niagra (Whitefish Falls-Dalstdnc Bluegrass) won the third division for Chapel Ridge Farm. Ames Adkins trains the roan colt with Mike Peterson picking up the winning drive. Joe Putnam guided Hey Watt (Kilowatt-Cheeca Lodge) to victory in the first division in 2:12.2. Steve Wernz is the owner and trainer of Hey Watt.

The fastest mile of the day came in the third division of the 3-year-old colt pace for Evelyn Lewellen’s Evening Gold (His Mattjesty-Island Paragon). Evening Gold came home in a time of 2:05.1 with Brandon Bates in the sulky for trainer Charles Lewellen. Those same connections of Bates and the Lewellens had captured the first division in 2:06.3 with Patanio (Dontgetinmyway-Electric Maneuver). Doug Rideout took his sixth winning drive for the day in the second division with the Kent Wilcox-trained Cherokee Ryder (Electric Yankee-Julie B). Indian Creek Farms own the gelding which had a winning time of 2:07. Mike Peterson found the winner’s circle for the fifth time on the program in the fourth division in 2:09.2 with Lightening Watt (Kilowatt-Ragtime Hall). Peterson also trains the colt for Richard Nash.
