Freshman pacers in action at Clearfield

Clearfield, PA — The second day of action at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds in Clearfield, PA featured freshman pacers competing in 11 stake events.

Two Quaker Stakes for PA-owned or PA-sired horses opened the afternoon card, with wins going to Pinkalicious (Cam’s Card Shark) and Born For Speed (Stand Forever). Pinkalicious patiently sat in the pocket until the ¾ pole, going on to an easy 2:07.3 win over Sam’s Diamond (Victory Sam). Pinkalicious, a filly, is owned by LA Express Stable and trained by Long. Born For Speed, a gelding, won his split in 2:08 after recovering from an early break for driver Steve Schoeffel. Martin Baxendell owns the winner, while Bill Daumit picked up the training victory.

The remainder of the card features Pennsylvania Sire Stake action, and four divisions of filly pacers were next on the track. Roger Hammer dominated the division, winning the first three splits. Wishfullartist (Real Artist) was a 2:07.3 winner, picking up her third win in five career starts. Hammer also owns and trains. My Gal Hannah, owned by Hammer and Clair Corle, defeated the second group in impressive fashion, overcoming a second tier starting spot and racing on the outside for the entire mile to defeat front-running Countless Gold (Blissfull Hall) in 2:05.3. Like her stablemate, My Gal Hannah (Metropolitan) is now 3-for-5 on the season. In the third split, Hammer’s own Caramel Chinno was a wire-to-wire winner in 2:03.3. Caramel Chinno – also now 3-for-5 on the year – is a daughter of Allamerican Native.

The fourth division was won by Dancedowntheaisle, a Blissfull Hall filly. Owned, and trained by Sherry Libengood, Dancedowntheaisle was catch-driven by Timmy Offutt. The winning time was 2:07.3.

Five divisions of colt pacers battled in PASS action to end the day. In the first division, Stripe’n Star (No Pan Intended) led every step of the way, winning in 2:05.3 for driver Chris Shaw. Jason Shaw owns and trains the gelding.

In the second group, Fool To Cry came from behind to win in 2:04.4. Driver Eric Neal sent the I Am A Fool gelding three wide through the last turn, and he responded with an impressive win. Owned by David and John Prushnok, Fool To Cry was a winner in just his second lifetime start. Randy Neal was the winning trainer.

The third division brought a wire-to-wire winner, as Stealth Flight (Blissfull Hall) scored from the inside post for trainer/driver Steve Schoeffel. The gelding paced the mile in 2:06 for his third career win. Stealth Flight is owned by Virginia and Kathy Schoeffel along with Jim Reuther and Jerry Dedoszak.

Another Blissfull Hall gelding, Lookout Macatoo, won the fourth split for his second win in as many starts on the fair circuit. Trained and driven by Brad Provost, Lookout Macatoo won in 2:05.2 for owners Douglas Cullers and Thomas Hope.
Chris Shaw picked up his second winning drive of the day in the final race, as Evening Shadows was unchallenged in his attempt to remain undefeated in his career. Yet another son of Blissfull Hall, Evening Shadows is now a perfect 5-for-5 after pacing his mile in 2:05, with the last half in one minute flat. Charles Von See owns and trains Evening Shadows.
The four-day meet continues on Wednesday at Clearfield, with 3-year-old trotters in action on Wednesday at 12 Noon.
