Tuesday’s (August 25) edition of Fair Roundup features results stories from the Meadville (PA) Fair and the Hicksville (OH) Fair.

Freshman pacers in action at Meadville

Meadville, PA — The second of four days of racing at the Crawford County Fairgrounds in Meadville, Pa., featured freshman pacers.

Yogi Hanover started the card with a 2:04.4 win in a division of the PA Sire Stake 2-year-old colt pace. Trained and reined by Joe Offutt, the son of The Panderosa was a winner for owners Joe and Karen Offutt. The second division was won by Straight Character (Shady Character), who paced in 2:03.3 for catch-driver Dave Brickell. Bob Krenitsky trains and co-owns the colt. The third division was captured by High Wire Kat, a gelded son of Allamerican Ingot. Chris Shaw guided the pacer home in 2:04.2 for his brother, owner/trainer Jason Shaw.

Two divisions of the PASS 2-year-old filly pace were up next, with victories earned by Bliss Falcon (Blissfull Hall) and Budgirls Hanover (No Pan Intended). Bliss Falcon scored in 2:05.2 for owner/trainer/driver Roger Hammer, while Budgirls Hanover paced in 2:03.2 for driver Jordon Miller. Randy Ringer owns the filly and JC Miller Jr. trains.

The day’s final stake was a 2-year-old Quaker Pace, with the Miller family again picking up the win, this time with Milano Grande for owner Michael Grande. The daughter of Arturo paced the mile in 2:05.4.

In other action, Jami The Great won a division of the free for all trot in 2:10.2 for Hammer, while the other division was won by Excellent Caviar and Terry Altmeyer in 2:09.3.

Action continues at Meadville on Wednesday at 12 noon.

Nine races at Hicksville

Edgerton, OH — The Defiance County Fair at Hicksville, Ohio continued its three day race program with nine races on Tuesday evening.

R E Shawn (Jailhouse Jesse–Dick’s Lil Sister) took the first division of the 2-year-old colt trot, in 2:07.3. Don Harmon piloted the gelding to the winner’s circle for owner Paul Russell and trainer Ann Russell. The Barb Lewis-trained Jailhouse Dale (Jailhouse Jesse–Chipper Dale) won the second split with Greg Bateson in the bike. Lewis also co-owns Jailhouse Dale with Michael Pozefsky. Jailhouse Dale matched R E Shawn’s time of 2:07.3.

Sam’s Shuffle (Nobleland Sam–Lady Shuffle) captured the lone division of the 3-year-old filly pace, in 1:59.3. Jim Mulinix trains the filly for DM Stables, with Mark Headworth picking up the winning drive.

Booze Cruiser (Yankee Cruiser–Sassy Pants) found the winner’s circle in the only division of the 3-year-old colt pace after a mile in 2:00.4. Miller’s Stable and Dan Murry pay the bills on the gelding, with Jim Mulinix doing the training and Mark Headworth doing the driving duties.

Tattler’s Jet won the Gene L. Vance Memorial Pace, the fair’s signature pacing event, in 1:57.4. Gene Miller trains Tattler’s Jet for owner David Carter. Chad Peter had the winning drive behind the gelding on Tuesday evening.
