Filion celebrates 7,000 career wins

Mississauga, ON — Driver Sylvain Filion celebrated his 7,000th career win during Tuesday evening’s (August 28) harness racing card at Georgian Downs.

Filion, 43, scored a driving double with Richard Moreau-trained trotters Guiltywithanexcuse and Rodeo in the fourth and eighth races to reach the milestone. He later started his pursuit for another thousand wins with freshman pacer Somewhere With You scoring in the ninth dash for conditioner Brad Maxwell.

The native of Saint-Andre-D’Argenteuil, Que., who now resides in Milton, Ont., has won 246 times so far this year while banking more than $4.75 million in purses. He currently ranks among Canada’s top 10 drivers for wins and purse earnings this year and comes in at number three on the WEG circuit. Filion has earned over a million in purses for 20 consecutive seasons with 2011 marking a career year during which he drove winners to more than $6.4 million in purses.

Hailing from one of the most accomplished harness racing families, some of Filion’s own recent accomplishments include winning the 2012 Golden Girls with Rebeka Bayama, 2012 Masters Stakes with Sparky Mark, and numerous Ontario Sires Stakes events with Prestidigitator.
