Fillies fly in Ohio Sires Stakes

Columbus, OH – The magic winning time was 1:53.2 in each of the three $40,000 divisions of the Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers on Friday (July 15) at Eldorado Scioto Downs.

Honey Buzz was the winner in the first of three Ohio Sires Stakes for 2-year-old filly pacers Friday night at Scioto Downs. Conrad Photo.

Honey Buzz (Tyler Smith) kicked off the Opening Leg in the first division. The Downbytheseaside-Tea Pot Hanover daughter found herself racing from the middle of the pack through the opening half. After spotting cover heading to the three-quarters pole, Honey Buzz tipped and pressed on. Unintimidated, the filly went three-wide through the final turn to win in 1:53.2.

Trained by Steve Carter, Honey Buzz is owned by Randy T Young Stables.

As the 30-1 longshot, Seaside Tina (Trevor Smith) finished second while 28-1 Colorful Dragon (Brett Miller) rallied for third.

In the next division, Boyzcalmecarlwayne (Dan Noble) held off her competition into the final stride. After getting away third, she didn’t sit on the rail long before surging to the lead. The battle was on by the three-quarters pole, but the Fear The Dragon-Express Jet filly dug in every step to stop the clock in 1:53.2. Boyzcalmecarlwayne was a $9,000 purchase out of the Ohio Selected Jug Sale for owner/trainer Brian Haynes.

Per the judges’ official ruling, Windydayatthebeach (Ronnie Wrenn Jr.) was placed second and No Fear Intended (Miller) was placed third.

Cruise Alert (Miller) captured the final OSS division for freshmen fillies. The daughter of Yankee Cruiser-Northern Eclipse didn’t disappoint her backers as the 3-5 favorite. She found the pocket for only a moment before establishing her dominance on the front end. After an easy :30 second quarter to the half mile mark, Cruise Alert stepped it into gear. The filly produced a back half in :55 to trip the wire in 1:53.2. Jeff Nisonger trains and co-owns Cruise Alert with Our Three Sons Stable.

Fear Of Sports (Tyler Smith) finished third but was second while Onederfulbeach (Aaron Merriman) finished fourth but was placed third.

Live racing resumes Saturday (July 15) at Eldorado Scioto Downs with a 16-race program. First post is 3:15 p.m. For more information on the facility and live racing season, visit the Eldorado Scioto Downs website.
