Saratoga Springs, NY — Four divisions of the New York Sire Stakes Late Closer for 2-year-old pacing fillies were contested on Friday night (September 2) at Saratoga Casino and Raceway.
The fastest freshman fillies of the evening were Abrokenart Hanover (Artiscape-Armbro Odessa) and Blows Me Away (American Ideal-Art’s Reality). Both 2-year-olds won their $12,200 divisions in 1:57.3.
Abrokenart Hanover prevailed for the second time of the season at her home track as trainer-driver Jay Randall placed the filly into the pocket early before tracking down the race’s odds-on favorite, Table Games, late in the mile to record the victory.
Blows Me Away (Jim Devaux) also was hot on the heels of the favorite, Canamerica, in her division before she passed the leader in the stretch and opened up to win by 3-1/2 lengths.
Lislea Bonita (Lislea-Julie Jewel) continued her winning ways on Friday with a front running score in the evening’s opener. Leading driver Billy Dobson sat behind the 2-year-old as they cruised to victory in 1:59, the third win in a row for the Christina Miller trained freshman and seventh in nine starts in the filly’s freshman campaign.
The fourth and final division of Late Closers on Friday was won by longshot Twin B My Way (Art Major-In Every Way). Dan Cappello, Jr. sat behind the Judith Blaun trained filly as they circled the field to prevail in 1:58.4, registering the upset at 17-1. It was the first career victory for Twin B My Way.
